Becoming Who You Want To Be

Due to the influx of unemployed, the job boards have become cluttered with people looking to find their next high paying career.

With so many people online, the scams have started to follow. It is often a long and arduous process just to find a legitimate opportunity. Remember the old adage “its not what you know, its who you know?” We need to start putting that to use for us again in these trying times.

So how do we do this? Simple, by taking a moment to jot down a list of anyone who we can attempt to leverage. Anyone is fair game, as long as they will take at least a call from you.

Ok, so now you have the list. The next step is putting that list to work and getting in touch with each of these people. Take a moment and think about how to approach each person as they will all be different dependign on the relationship.

No text messages or emails in this part. You are going to be asking these people for a favor, so you will want to place a call or meet each one of these people in person.

As always in a business setting, be courteous with their time and make sure you have some time to talk. Do not beat around the bush, let them know why you have contacted them and how much you appreciate them taking the time.

Be sure to ask them if they could put you in touch with someone or check into open positions for you. Be specific and then set a follow up date.

This in my experience is the best way to obtain a good job quickly and can save you a lot of time and headaches.

To recap, skip the job board and look to you relationships. At then end of the day, its all about who you know right?
