Getting Gratitude – 5 Tips

Recession seems to be the talk these days. If you want to loose your wallet, then keep doing what you’ve done. If you want to rework your mental mindset, start playing with a new attitude: an attitude of gratitude. Here are 5 ways to get started right away:

1. Past Experiences – Think of past experiences that are touching to you. Think of times when it felt amazing to just be alive. Those moments are clues of times when you felt grateful. Look back at old photos, letters, videos or past experiences that left you saying, “It feels great to be alive!” Focusing on those past experiences rekindles those old feelings of gratitude.

2. What do You Have? – Some people seem to put so much emphasis on what they don’t have. It doesn’t help. Consider you have a job or an income; you don’t have to live on the street. Consider that you have great friends and a good family to support you in times of need. You can be grateful or anything that you have – You might even be thankful to have access to this article via the internet.

3. You Gotta Start Early – Build momentum from the morning on. Start your day by saying, “thank-you” as you wake. And then every time you take a step, continue to say “thank-you,” as you walk to the bathroom. This builds great energy for your day.

4. Persistence Pays – As you start an affirmation, begin to repeat it. Become like a parrot. Begin saying, “I’m thank-you” multiple times, over and again until it begins to stick in your mind. After sometime you’ll notice your perception change; you’ll feel lighter. You might meet a co-worker and the first words out of your mouth will be “thank-you.” This is such a great exercise to rework your thinking. Remember, thoughts always proceed feelings.

5. Remain Consistent – You may have tried affirmations before without much luck. Maybe you said, “I’m grateful for my friends,” but you didn’t feel grateful. It felt like you were lying. At first it may come across as a lie, but with practice and persistence you will begin to shift our perception and gear into gratitude.
