If you have no idea how to write a resume then this is a good place for you to start. No matter what your job status is you should always have a good resume on hand. Without a good resume the odds are not in your favor for landing a decent job.
Even if you are currently employed, it is still a very good idea to have a resume on hand. This will be helpful in many ways, such as if you get laid off, or you just want to simply change jobs. By knowing how to write a good resume you will be a step ahead of most in the world of business.
Before you start the actual writing process of the resume it is a good idea to get all of the information together that you will need to fill out the sections of the resume. This will save you time so you do not have to keep getting up and looking for the information that you need, this makes writing the actual resume much more simpler.
You must have information about the last 3 jobs you were employed at. The name of the business you worked for, their address and phone, your job duties, the dates that you worked at the jobs, and what duties you performed at the last three jobs.
The next information you will need to have is the history of your education. This includes any kind of school you attended, as for instance high school diploma, any college or college diplomas you have acquired. Also the names and addresses of the schools that you attended. What you majored in and any rewards that you may have received are also a good idea to include in the education section.
Every resume should have basic sections, whether you want to include more than the basics will depend on what job you are trying to get. The basic sections of a resume are job experience, skills, awards and education experience.
The last section on most styles of resumes is the reference section. I my opinion this can never hurt you to put down some reliable references. Some people though choose to simply put down references are available upon request, the choice is up to you but I do not see how it can hurt you by putting some down.
Do not make your resume more than one page long. The quality of what you will be writing on the resume will get your foot in the door not the quantity. Also make sure that you use positive words, remember one bad word can get your resume thrown in the trash instantly, the resume is your first impression so make it count.
