Dance Teaches Grace and Poise

If there’s one thing a young dancer needs to learn it’s grace and poise. Kids take a while to get over that typical clumsiness they suffer, but dance is an ideal way for them to learn grace and poise. Ballet is particularly good for teaching children to take control of their actions and move with beauty and confidence.

Posture is very important to a dancer, especially ballet. Correct posture is taught to dancers very early and a lot of importance is placed upon it. Posture can be taught with different forms of stretches and walking techniques or, for more advanced dancers, simply interwoven into dance routines. If posture techniques are ignored it will most certainly come back to haunt any dancer, in the form of aches and pains, when they get older.

Balance is an important part of ballet. It is achieved by a number of different dance exercises and routines. A good sense of balance will help your child to move better and look more graceful. Pointe exercises are used for older students and bar exercises are done by all ages.

Bar exercises are very important for developing grace and poise in young dancers. You may have seen bar exercises before, which are typically performed in front of a mirror so the student can see what they are doing.

Exercises to develop young students’ strength will consist of bar and floor techniques. Nearly every muscle in the body is used when you dance, so it’s important that the dancer has the physical strength to cope with the demands of the art. It’s just another reason why it’s so important to have a suitably qualified dance instructor, so that the risk of injury is minimized.

In addition to building strength and poise, learning dance will help your child to learn discipline. Discipline is a highly transferable skill that can be used in many other pursuits, like studies and sports.

It is nearly impossible to learn dance without rhythm. Rhythm is something some have to work hard at and for others it comes very easy. Eurhythmics is a perfect way to learn rhythm and is commonly practiced in dance schools.

In addition to building friendships amongst the dance group, learning dance will also help your child to build their confidence. Confidence is something too many children don’t have and this usually leads to dysfunctional communication methods being used to compensate for the lack of such confidence.

To accomplish all of this your child will need to be enrolled in a good dance school. One of the things to look for is a warm friendly atmosphere. This will help your child to learn better and have more self confidence. A good school will encourage your child to enjoy dancing and develop their inner self. When they do this they will be more confident and have more poise and grace.
