5 Tips To Win Free Money For College

Student body presidents with high grade point averages are not the only students that win college scholarships. To be a college scholarship winner, the key is to NOT do what all the other applicants are doing. These 5 tips will help any student, even the average ones, win college scholarships.

The first tip in winning college scholarships is to not just use the internet to do your scholarship searching. There are many other sources available where can find a ton of scholarships and many of them will not be found through online searches. Because of this, fewer students apply for these scholarships and your chances of winning are automatically higher. Improve your odds of winning right from the start and don’t do what all the other students are doing in their scholarships searching!

How do you decide what scholarships to apply for? The answer is: As many as you possibly can! Don’t let the amount of money to be won determine if you are going to apply for each scholarship. Scholarships with large awards are great, but smaller awards DO add up. Also, many students make the mistake of applying for just the big scholarships and ignore the little ones. Smaller scholarships often have fewer students applying for them, which makes you chances of winning them higher. Apply for big and little scholarships and don’t decide based on the amount of the award to be won.

Don’t ever ignore need-based scholarship opportunities. These are scholarships that determine if you qualify to apply for their scholarship award based on the total income of you and/or your parents. Surprisingly, some need-based scholarships use the income level of $100,000 or less to be considered for their scholarship! Don’t be tempted to not apply for need-based scholarships, unless you truly do have an income level of under $100,000. You don’t know the income level that each scholarship requires unless it is clearly stated in the applications rules. If you search for and cannot find the income requirement in the rules and you honestly need the aid, you can apply for the need-based scholarships.

Community service might just be the key to winning scholarships. Be sure to share any and all volunteer hours you have worked in the last four years. Scholarship judges are so impressed with students that have taken the time to help others. Even easy volunteering like helping coach a child’s tee ball team is considered community service. Lots of volunteer hours also gives you ideas for the popular scholarship essay question: What have you done to contribute to society? You can tell them about how you use your gift of playing baseball to help small children. If you do not have any volunteer hours, start NOW. You will be surprised at how many hours you can give in just a few months of community service.

I did say five, but the very best and most important tip on how to win college scholarships is to learn how to make your scholarship applications stand out to the judges. I developed a method of doing this that won my son over $20,000 in private scholarships. I was personally told by a few judges that his application package was so impressive that they knew from the start that he was going to be awarded their scholarship.
