Becoming a Registered Nurse

Would you like to be a nurse? Perhaps you are seeking employment as a registered nurse. I can offer you assistance whether you are a registered nurse seeking employement or you are interested in becoming a nurse.

It wasn’t really that long ago when being a nurse meant that you would be overworked, underpaid, and under stimulated intellectually. Most menial tasks have now been delegated to the nurse’s aides, which leaves the registered nurse taking care of more personally fulfilling work. As the responsiblities of the nurse grew, so did the nurse’s pay scale.

All of the benefits of being a registered nurse is worth the hard work and commitment which does not come easy. You have the option to attend nursing school full-time. Or you can advance in stages if you must work your way through school.

First you’ll start as a nurse assistant. Then with another year and a half of school you will become an LVN or licensed vocational nurse, however you do need to take an exam to become licensed and practice as an LVN. Then with a bit more school and another test you will become a registered nurse. Then you will be ready to search for registered nurse employment.

If you have not yet finished your school then you should maybe consider looking around for a job now. Since RN’s are in such short supply a lot of hospitals and even clinics are offering in-house training programs. As an employee you will be allowed to attend your classes on company time, have the hospital pay for your school and/or possibly completing some of your training while at the hospital.

Of course, all facilities have different programs, so you will want to shop around some before making your decision. Many of these programs require you to make a committment to the company. The average committment is usually 2-3 years, but depending on the particular program it could be more or less, sometimes you will be required to stay with a company as long as eight years. Look at all of your alternatives, and then decide what works best for you.

If you are already a registered nurse then you are in high demand and should have a relatively easy time locating a good job. Take a look at my resource box for links that will help you in your job search.
