Should You Get A Job Or Go To College?

After high school, every student has a big decision to make and that is whether to move on to college or to try and get a job. Actually, this decision must be made much earlier, as in order to get into college you must apply and be accepted. It is the time in your life where you have to make some big decisions.

Some high school graduates have already set their eyes on college, while others want to immediately take on the bigger world and start working. If you are torn between these two options, perhaps it will do you good if you weigh the pros and cons of college life. College isn’t for everyone but it is usually the right choice if you can afford it.

The reasons a college degree is preferable for many include the fact that it may open up a lot more opportunities and many employers now require a degree. Another reason is that over a lifetime, it has been shown that people with a college degree make more than those without. The long terms benefits of college are obvious but you will be trading immediate income for possible higher income later on.

Aside from financial compensation, studying in a reputable college or university will shape up not just your academic skills, but also your interpersonal skills. It helps you establish your confidence and value system that you are going to need later on when you barge into the corporate world. College is the right choice for most young adults for these reasons and more.

The cost of college education is another reason why some high school graduates prefer to work right after high school. You can educate yourself in many different ways, and this does not cost a thing. The whole world is your school. You are also not limiting yourself to just one career because you learn the things that you are passionate about at your own pace.
