Utah may be a comparatively small state (population wise) but there are some interesting things going on there. Utah technology companies are starting to grow, and there are three major universities in the area that produce a lot of qualified individuals that can jump right into those businesses. Technology and education are inseparable, and as one begins to reach a higher level, so will the other.

The first of the major schools is the University of Utah, which has quality courses in technological and scientific areas. Then there is the well known Brigham Young University, which sets some very high standards for education, and Utah State University, a land grant school with a strong engineering program. All three of these universities produce graduates who can immediately go into the technological industry.

There are some Utah technology companies that can impact lives of others all around the country. Nuskin, for example, has employed many advanced technologies to develop skin and beauty products and deliver them to customers all over the world. They have set up their corporate offices in Provo, but they employ thousands of people in locations all over the world.

Merit Medical Systems is another Utah company that continues to work on developing ways to keep patients free from the spread of infection while in the hospital. They have specialized in developing one use medical products, yet at the same time trying to keep the costs down.

There is also Tharos Laboratories Inc. This growing Utah technology company works mainly with the cardiovascular system of the body, and has developed techniques and products that can help keep a person’s cholesterol levels low.

There are, of course, a growing number of Utah technology companies that focus on the electronics and computer industries. The number of companies continues to grow, and many well-known computer companies, like Microsoft, Apple, and HP, have a large office set up here, or are planning on expanding to Utah in the future.

The online industry continues to expand as well, and many prominent companies in Utah have a large stake in it. There is, for example, Symantec, LanDesk, and Novell, a company that has won an award for the best web support of 2009. Then there are companies like SpectrumDNA, which specializes in new and innovative products for the social media world.

Utah is becoming the focus of a new technological push. With schools that produce qualified, educated graduates, and new companies that are setting up offices in the area, it will continue attract big companies and become the source for future technological innovation.
