Selling products online is not only for big businesses. Small businesses and individuals also have the opportunity to make money in the world of e-commerce, which has continued to grow in recent years.
If you have your own online store, you probably know that one of the biggest challenges is to get people to visit the site. In many cases, converting those visitors to sales is much easier than just getting the visitors in the first place.
For this reason we will now take a look at a number of different things you can start doing today to increase traffic at your e-commerce site.
1. Pay-Per-Click Advertising
Pay-per-click marketing is a great way to get visitors to your site that can be extremely cost-effective if done properly. All of the most popular search engines (Google, Yahoo, and Bing) have PPC programs where advertisers can bid on ad placements that will be shown when certain searches are performed.
As an advertiser, PPC ads are a great option because you can highly target the traffic that you are getting by using the right keywords, negative keywords, and by setting geographical limitations. With high quality visitors that are looking for what you have to offer, conversion rates can often be quite high with PPC.
Another great benefit is that you can participate in pay-per-click advertising on any budget. Do you want to spend $100 a month or tens of thousands? Any budget can work with PPC.
2. Banners
Banners are one of the most popular kinds of online ads. If you are using banners to market your sites you may not have as much control over who sees your ads as you would with PPC, but you may get exposure to a larger audience.
Pricing on banner ads will depend on a lot of factors. The site you are advertising on will charge a fee (often monthly) based on the amount of traffic they receive, the reputation of the site, location and size of the ad, and other related factors.
3. Affiliate Program
If you are looking to boost sales, one option is to offer to share the revenue with others who are willing to help you make some sales. An affiliate program will allow you to have other website owners sign up to be an affiliate, they will then add a link to your page on their site with some special code that will track the referral, and when someone that they send to you purchases a product, they will get a percentage of the sale from you.
Affiliate programs can bring visitors and sales to your site, and can help others to make money for their efforts promoting your products. If affiliates aren’t making sales, you’re not paying them any money, so it is a low risk way to promote your site.
4. Add a Blog to the Site
If you are struggling to get people to visit your e-commerce site, consider adding a blog to the site. Blogs are great for marketing and traffic generation because they keep fresh content on the site, they gradually add to the number of pages on the site, and they can help to produce search engine traffic as well as repeat traffic.
Blogging on your own site is not the only option here. In addition, you can write guest posts for other blogs and benefit from the exposure that it provides. If a blog’s audience is a good fit with the target audience of your e-commerce site you can write an article and include a link back to your site.
5. Email Newsletter
People who are interested in buying your products are also likely to have an interest in being notified about sales, specials, new products, and things like that. If you have an email list you can quickly reach a targeted audience with your message.
