Preparation, energy and time are needed when applying to medical school. The admissions process does not happen overnight. It is actually a rather lengthy process that can take up to a year. MCAT testing is part of the admissions process for any medical school. Prior to being admitted, this test will have to be taken. The application to medical school can be submitted before taking the test but will not be complete until the scores are received. Also pay attention to any additional course requirements that they school may have such as calculus, humanities or biochemistry courses. Make sure that you meet all the necessary requirements for admittance into the medical school.
Complete all the prerequisites as well as the MCAT at least one year before applying to the medical school. April is the month suggested for taking the MCAT.
The application that is filled out for medical school is known as the AMCAS. It is similar to applications for undergraduate admissions. June is when the AMCAS application is will begin to be accepted.
Schools often use secondary applications. These applications have questions that are geared primarily towards that school. You may receive this application after entering your school selection on the AMCAS application.
In order to be accepted by the school, an interview at that school must be done. It is a way for the school to determine if the person represented on paper is the person you really are. It is also used to see if you really want to attend that school. Interviews normally start in September and end in March.
The admissions decisions span the entire time of the interview session. It is possible to know as early as October if you are accepted or not. If a rolling admission cycle is not used, then the decisions will be made at one time and announced in March. You will only gain admission if you receive an invitation to interview and do good presenting yourself.
As mentioned previously, this process is long and time consuming. The average time is eleven months from taking the MCAT to knowing if you have been accepted or not.
