Pass your CDL Test by using these test taking tips.
Use Your Study Time Wisely
The key to effectively preparing for your CDL Test is to study smart – not hard! To study smart, you need to:
* Discover the subjects that are covered on the CDL examination
* Look at the material that you do not know
* Ensure you are alert when you study
* Develop a flexible study schedule
Utilize CDL Practice Tests to Help Your Prepare
One of the better ways to study smart for the CDL Exam is to make use of CDL Practice Exams. Self-belief is gained by continually practicing for the CDL exam. To make the most out of CDL practice exams, try a few of these approaches:
* Use your state issued CDL manual when you take your first CDL practice test
- Fully know all of the questions you got wrong by thoroughly reading the explanations in your score report
* Take exams with self-imposed time constraints – this will help you insure that you know the material
Read Each Question Carefully
You should carefully read each question at least two times before you read the answers. Then, you should read each answer choice two times before you answer the question. Don’t fall into a trap by reading the questions and answers too rapidly. Many people miss key information or misread some of the question. Lastly, don’t over-think the question and look for a theoretical answer versus a common sense answer.
Don’t Jump to Conclusions
Some questions are trickier than others and require careful analysis. CDL test writers sometimes put answer choices that appear to be correct but aren’t. Oftentimes, these misleading answer choices are placed first to tempt you to choose them. Make sure you don’t fall for this ploy! CDL test writers may also put multiple answers that seem to be correct. If his happens, make sure to pick the best answer based on the information in the question, not on any assumptions.
First is Usually Best
After you have read the question carefully (twice!) and all of the answers carefully (twice!) you will select your best answer. Trust yourself! If you have time left over to review your CDL Test – don’t change any answers unless you find an obvious error that you are sure about. Your first answer is usually the right answer.
Pace Yourself
Even if your CDL test does not have a specific time limit, you should still keep a proper pace. The best way to keep your exam pace is to develop a budget for your time. To develop a time budget, simply divide your time limit by the number of questions. For example, if you have 60 minutes to take the exam, and 30 questions to answer, then you have two minutes per question. To keep your pace going, you should check your time every few questions. If you don’t know a question – skip it, don’t dwell on it. But don’t rush through questions that you think you know – remember to read each question and answer carefully.
Understand CDL Test Tricks
If you know the CDL test tricks, you’ll be better prepared:
* Absolute No No’s – Answers with absolutes such as always, never, greatest, must are generally not the correct answers
* Beware the “except” – Questions with “except” (or “which of the following is NOT true”) are often read too fast and missed. A good way to answer these questions is to cover the word except or not and then choose the answer that does not belong.
* Everything is there for a reason – All of the information in the question is usually valid. You should not discount anything in the question. All the facts in the question are usually needed to find the right answer.
Every Question Deserves An Answer
Answer every question on your CDL test, because you are not penalized for guessing. If you have to guess the answer to a question, the best approach is to eliminate obviously wrong answers first. You then will only have to guess from a smaller set of remaining answers. Pick your best answer and continue on to the remaining questions.
If You Believe You Will Pass, Then You Will
Your attitude when it comes to preparing and passing your CDL Test is the most important factor that you can control. You need to be positive and have confidence. You need to believe that you will pass your exam. While you are taking your exam, you need to have confidence and relax. If you come across an answer that frustrates you – just skip it and come back to it later. DO NOT PANIC! If you have properly prepared – YOU WILL PASS!
