The economy right now is awful and it is hard for many adults to get jobs: think how hard it much be for a 13 year old!. If a young teen wants to earn some money, they do have options but it is usually them being creative and learning how to earn money on their own.
Ond of the first places a young 13 or 14 year old might look for a job in years past was with the local newspaper. But with subscriptions going down, there is much less demand for newspapers and there aren’t as many of this kind of job available.
Local grocery stores are often willing to hire 13 year olds for bagging purposes. Larger grocery chain stores, might not be the best option, since you mostly need to be over 18, but if you have a local grocery store near your area, or a local fruit market, these are both great options for your 13 year old.
Your local golf courses might have summer jobs as caddies or driving range helpers. Individual caddies used to be on all golf courses but most have switched to gasoline carts. However, there still are some courses that have caddies and a job at a golf course during the summer is a great place to work.
Many teenagers find work around their neighborhoods by helping people cut their grass, rake leaves, and weed. Any chore that adults don’t want to do might be able to be done by a young teen and this can be a source of money. Then in the winter, those same people might be willing to pay for snow shoveling and other winter time chores that need to be done.
One job that is fun and flexible that is great for young teens is dog walking and pet sitting. Families go on vacation in the summer and many of them have problems figuring out what to do with their pets. This is something that most teens can easily do. Another job is babysitting which is of course probably the number one teen job of all time.
The options for jobs for 13 year olds are really quite limitless, all depending on the area where you live. There are also options for tutoring, mentoring, or even being a farm hand. The only limit is the young adult looking for the work. To have a job is a great way to earn money, build responsibility and a sense of accomplishment and independence.
