The Information Systems Examination Board (or ISEB for short) was established in 1989, at a time when the commercialisation and use of computers began to become more prevalent in business. Its foundation was a collaboration to establish standards within the IT industry and create disciplines that served the progression of the IT industry as a whole, by catering for a number of key areas.
Since then, ISEB has gone on to cater for key industry areas which comprise its course materials. They are: IT Service Management/ITIL; Software Testing; Sustainable IT; Business Analysis; Systems Development; Project Management and Support; IT Governance, Information and Security; IT Assets and Infrastructure; Green IT.
ISEB is also part of the Chartered Institute for IT and through this offers a number of software testing courses from foundation level, to Practitioner, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Each level teaches more of the intricacies of the software testing discipline, from the fundamentals, right through to advanced methods and practices. The courses offered through ISEB comprise assignment coursework, practical and theoretical examinations, and can be accessed from over 50 countries, which gives an indication of how ISEB is considered as an authority in the industry.
ISEB offer their suite of courses via their website, which also provides supporting documentation for all courses from information on where and how to access training, course overview materials and syllabus materials. Online, you can also find examination instructions and the ISEB website even includes an interactive portal for course subjects to register their work and seek guidance from examiners.
In addition, through ISEB, the opportunity for software testers to become trainers in software testing also exists, which further widens the scope of the software testing discipline.
