Project manager salaries vary based on a couple different factors: (1) experience, (2) the company you work for, and (3) the physical location of the company you work for. Even with these variations, a career in this field is one of the most stable in corporate America. Despite the multiple factors that come into play, project managers are always needed and, in recent times, their salaries have continued to increase.

Each project management position will vary based on where you work; however, your main goal is to define a project and see it through until completion (just a the title suggests).

This person is the one who designates not only budget and time for the project, but the overall scope as well. The scope of a project defines what is to be covered and what is not covered in a particular project.
Once the project is rolling forward, you will report to important executives as to the status of the project(s). It is, ultimately, your responsibility to keep everything on track. The nice thing with departmental project management is that you will never have to deal with other departments projects. This allows you to dedicate your time to one area of expertise. Another department may be involved in a particular project of yours, but it is not your responsibility to implement this project in that department.
Even during this recent downturn in the economy, and the rise in unemployment, project management still flourished. Businesses cannot flourish without some sort of project management, and studies are showing that a company’s bottom line can be significantly increased by using such skills. Because of this, a career in this field is one of the best options available, and will be for years to come.
