To get a job as a criminologist one should get a degree like Bachelor, Masters or PhD in law and crime. The degree should be from a recognized university.
A higher degree will enable you to get a job at a superior level. A criminologist’s basic work is to give theoretical explanations for the abnormal behavior of the criminals.
A criminologist also has to investigate and analyze the criminal law, a particular crime and also of the methodology of the criminal mind.
The job of criminologist has become many sided and their services used for different types of enforcement of law and also at various levels. Their work will help in finding out the reasons for a criminal to commit a particular crime. The departments which engage them have the responsibility to gather information and compile statistics about crimes and the frequency of their recurrence. A more important job is to analyze the criminal judicial system, how it is processed and generally investigation crime.
The career of a criminologist can cover various fields in the criminal and judicial system. It ranges from rehabilitation, counseling, law enforcement, policy studies, and research into various aspects of criminal activity, their investigation, prevention, and corrections.
The criminology course covers a very wide field. It includes juvenile delinquency, criminal law and theory, sociology etc. a criminologist is expected to have knowledge of some related subjects like forensics, psychology etc.
Criminology will help a student to take up a part time job even while studying. The job should be in the field of criminal legal system and criminology. It is also the time to acquire some basic knowledge on computer science, logic etc.
The career field for a criminologist is not narrow. Work is also wide and varied. Data collection, computation, analysis etc; are some of them. Attending at crime scenes and autopsies are the job of some criminologists.
