Most United State graduate business schools use GMAT scoring as one or more of the selection criteria when choosing students for admission to MBA and various graduate level courses. The GMAT is a regular test, often taken by computer, and covering verbal skills, mathematical reasoning and analytic skills. The maximum score possible is 800, and over the last three years the regular has been 533 points.
There were 2000 candidates for the first GMAT, which was contained 1953. These days the test is taken by more then 200,000 every year. Most US business schools expect good GMAT scores from candidates for courses such as Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees.
The GMAT test covers verbal and mathematical skills, and analysis abilities, and is usually taken by computer, in one four hour session. Analytic writing is the first section. This takes 60 minutes, and two essays are required from the candidate.
The first essay should analyze an argument, and the second should analyze an issue. The essay is marked twice, one marker is human, and one is a computer software manufactured by Vantage Learning. The program is educated to analyze creative writing and syntax, while the human examines the grade of the candidate’s ideas, and their power to express them.
If the scars between the two examiners disagree within a particular margin, then a third examiner will also check the paper. The third examiner is also an individual. American English grammar and spelling are crucial, but some allowance can be produced for non-native speakers.
In the verbal section the candidate must answer 41 multiple choice questions in 75 minutes. The questions include comprehension, sentence correction and critical reasoning.
The mathematical part of the test is broken into two types of question: problem solving and data sufficiency. Again there are 75 minutes accessible to answer the questions (37 multiple choice).
The GMAT scoring system gives a total score out of 800. The median is designed to be near to 500 marks. Only math and verbal sections are counted in this score, the analytic writing mark is counted separately.
